First time i tried to quit cigarettes i thought it was like quitting some bigger harmful drug . I thought about cigarettes like heroin . Because it was that hard to quit for me in the beginning . The cravings and firing inside my brain for cigarettes was so strong My head was more like trying to control my heroin addiction , lol I had to stop it and somehow i did stop it . What a relief these days Take your addiction a little bit more seriously Thanks4 points

JH63, You are approaching this quit from a place of weakness instead of from a place of authority. You can without a single fail, quit smoking and stay quit for the rest of your life. Instead of saying "I have decide to start my New Year with a new quit attempt", how about "I've made a decision to quit smoking and I pledge to never, ever take another puff of nicotine." Be bold. Speak with intent. You are now accountable to all of us here at the support group. As long as you think that nicotine has a death grip on you - you're admitting defeat. Although it's true that nicotine is very addictive, it has no power over your mind or body. Please lay out your plan to quit smoking so I can take a look at it and perhaps add my two cents. Thanks!4 points

You're beating this addiction too Jeff everyday you stay smoke free! At three days quit all the nicotine will pretty much be out of your system and for me it got harder because my body really wanted its fix. So be prepared in case that happens(not that it will). Stick close, post an SOS if needed, stock up on hard candies to suck on. I was stuck on soft peppermint puffs my whole first year but hey I never smoked and ate at the same time so keeping my mouth full of those was well worth it You're doing great!!!!!!3 points

Day two is done! It was much worse than day one. Praying for a Better day three. After the fog finally lifted, I spent the rest of the day nervous and jittery. I know from past quits that I don't normally have many days like this, but I'm bound to have some. I can't wipe out 50 years of smoking in a day, a month, or even a year. @Doreensfree Thanks for your replies! They are encouraging and appreciated! I see that you have been quit for a long time. Congratulations on being able to beat this addiction!3 points

Hi everyone! I'm looking forward to a very successful NOPE commitment. I'm currently on day 3 after 40+years of smoking. I have COPD, asthma, bronchitis and am just done taking meds so I can breathe enough to smoke. How ridiculous is that? But I've been doing it for years. Hubby still smokes but not in the house. Today is the hardest day so far. The coughing is annoying as hell and starting to give me a headache. I can and will do this. One day at a time. Congrats to all the success stories on here!2 points

Thank you. I am really glad to have found this forum. have been watching Joel’s videos. Learning a lot. it’s funny because I have spent years actively avoiding learning about nicotine addiction and quitting smoking information. last year a family member was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer and then he quit smoking. I have wanted to quit for a year but could never put down the cigarette. Now day 2 and it’s not easy but it isn’t as hard as I feared.2 points

It was a summer afternoon. I strolled over to bleachers that were set up on the sand of the seaside. A man sat in about row three toward one side. I climbed up to an upper row and sat down. He sat below me, on my left, peacefully smoking a cigarette and gazing out over the water. After a few moments, I realized I was smoking a cigarette, or at least I assumed I was, because I was holding one that was smoked half way down. I was confused. How could I smoke when I was so close to the lido deck and one year quit? The thought crossed my mind that maybe I'd just forget that I'd ever smoked it, but I knew I had to just start from day 1 again. It was very real, down to the green grass, blue sky and water, and weathered tan color of the wooden bleachers. Fortunately, it was only real to my dreaming self. It was a relief to wake up, realize I was still quit, and less than two months from the lido deck. I think it was a warning from my subconscious. I've seen some films lately where people were smoking, and I felt wistful about past smoking breaks.1 point

Hey Babs! That's good news for the new quitters. I don't even think about smoking but I'm very aware that I'm a former smoker and all it takes is one puff!1 point

Welcome, Deb!! I also quit after smoking for 40 years, and if I can do it, you can, too! Quitting is uncomfortable, even miserable sometimes, but it will not kill you. Cry, scream, rant, rave, take multiple showers a day (you can't smoke in the shower!) walk, run, dance, sing, just do anything but smoke!! And the good news is...when you get through all those withdrawal symptoms...you will find a whole new world! Be patient and kind to yourself...you can do this!1 point

@Boo, I used to be so anal about putting my lights and decorations out just right. Every bulb on the house had to be perfectly straight and every decoration had to be perfectly placed. It was usually a two to three day job on the outside and it always amazed me how quickly all that hard work came down lol1 point

It was a quite day in the neighborhood. Then Nolan Ryan showed up and all hell broke loose.1 point

Smoking dreams can be scary and I had quite a few long after my quit. It is good that you saw this as a warning though. Things do get better with time, as I'm sure you have seen, but as nicotine addicts, we must always remain vigilant. Congrats on doing so well with your quit. As Jill said, I'm looking forward to your first year quit mark too..1 point
-
Yep, its a warning and you're smart enough to heed it I'm looking forward to celebrating your first year quit with you too1 point
