  3. As of 4:00 p.m., I am smoke free for one month. It hasn't been easy peasy (borrowed from someone else...ha ha) but I am feeling pretty good overall. I am using the patch to help me quit and I have to say that it has made a huge difference for me. I am a little past the halfway mark in the 8-week program. I began Step 2 yesterday and so far so good. With less nicotine now, I may start feeling more withdrawal...we'll see. I'm looking forward to finishing the program and being done with nicotine for good! I appreciate the support I have received here. Thank you to all and my best to everyone in their quit efforts!

  5. HI! ALL! @Doreensfree Changing my routine is something I've never given any thought. I am a very regimented person. I think it came from all those years I was in the military when I was young. In fact, it has annoyed my wife, children, and other people over the years. I know because they have told me so. I also know that I would always smoke at a certain time or trigger point. After meals, after completing a task, etc.. Thanks for suggesting this! I will think about how I can change my routine around especially during those times of the day that I struggle the most. I've been reading a thread today about how others, that have quit, dealt with their urges and cravings. There are a ton of ways people have done it. Making a list of the ones I think could help me. If I tried all these different distractions, I wouldn't have any time to smoke. Thanks Again!

I changed my morning routine totally in my early quit ....to avoid that first cut of the day routine ... Kept myself busy ....showering ect.....drank juice instead of coffee.... Soon the new routine will become the normal ...

  9. I haven't changed my routine to much. I am hitting all the triggers and cravings head on. I am conquering them as I go along. This is to make sure I am in a good healthy place when I head back to work. I work in a busy Irish Pub so I want to be ready for any triggers or cravings I am going to be experiencing there. I will take this one day at a time like you and NOPE

  14. HI Everyone! I just finished day four. It was a good day! A few cravings, but not too bad. I had a bad day six on my last quit, but that doesn't mean it will be the same this time. I'm sticking to my quit plan so far. I've even added a few things. I just have to get up in the morning and stay focused until my head clears. I don't wake up all the way at once in the mornings, and I always had that first Cig. right out of bed. I would get up, put my slippers on, and go straight to our partially closed in porch for that first nicotine fix of the day. I would do that even in really cold, snowy weather. Now that's an addict! I'm off to day five! Take Care!

  27. You have successfully navigated through a month of triggers and patterns. Congratulations ! One month is great. When you stop taking nicotine, withdrawals will stop completely. The withdrawals will stay with you as long as you administer the drug, that's just the nature of it. As smokers we were in constant withdrawal and bumping up every 20 minutes or so.

  29. Good for you Kate. You need to find what works for you. My strategy is distract, distract, distract. The more engrossed I get in something, the better.

  30. Kate, There is no perfect way to get through the triggers and cravings. Plus, there is no perfect recipe for the perfect quit. Everyone has a different way to get through or past all the pitfalls that we face. So, once you find something that works for you then stick with it. As we learn to cope with this stuff we build a good lasting quit. So stay strong and safe.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
