  1. Thinking about beef brisket and wood pallets. This quarantine has given me time to focus on my obsessions and take up more along the way. With all this time at home, I can be very meticulous when it comes to grilling and cooking. Had a smoked beef brisket last night that was, if I may be so bold, perfect. I started the process on Thursday night, trimming surface fat and applying the rub. Smoked the brisket over the course of six hours yesterday, taking time to apply mop sauce and add pellets to the grill. That was some good eating. Added bonus: we're gonna have leftovers that will last for days. Building furniture for the nursery has rekindled my interest in woodworking. I was kicking around the idea of building a new coffee table for the back porch. Sugar Britches pulled up a photo of an outdoor table that someone built entirely out of wood pallets. Did a quick internet search and found all kinds of ideas for projects that can be done using pallets. This works perfectly for me. Through my work, I have access to as many used pallets as I want. We can't get rid of them...the things are stacked up everywhere. Do the whole "reduce, reuse, recycle" bit and save money along the way...it's nice when things come together. Boo the builder, can he fix it....

  2. Years ago, I made a great platform/deck (out of pallets) to stand on at an outdoor bathtub Was a bitch getting the staples out but, once done I was able to place the boards closer together. It held up quite well.

  8. Mate....let's aim to make this the final push....no more NRT yeah? So chewing normal gum will help with appetite issue...most gum now is sugar free do diabetic friendly. Healthy snacking option that is good..celery sticks. Also good option is to suck on sugar free lollipops. I know it's hard to do that final step and give up the NRT...cos I've done it...but you can do this mate.

  10. nor does everybody quit that way. some do it cold turkey and some do it in a different way. it really does not matter how you do it as long as you do it and crawl out the tunnel and seal it forever. but what is a fact? and what do facts have to do with a quit? a quit is a personal voyage undertaken towards self liberation. lets look closer. a fact is the analysis of something that has been - an analysis based on the past. facts are models of future probability based on past. it is a fact that most short people can quit easy and feel lesser withdrawal symptom as compared to taller folks (fyr a tall person is a person who stands over 6 feet tall in this study based on cog of the navel and height above msl) now - does this mean that every short person will be able to quit easier as compared to a tall person? possible but not definitive does that mean no tall person can ever quit easily or less painfully than a short person - possible but not definitive so - what has the fact done for us here. it has just reflected the story or truth of what has happened so far based on the data we fed into the system. ok, but then - if facts cannot forecast correct or rightly then why or how to use it?. 1. a fact is not a forecaster that is definitive but is just a probability indicator. it is only true of the past up-to the moment it was declared. 2. for eg - if i were a tall man then - in this example i would be extra cautious in my quit and be mentally much more alert than if i were under 6 feet tall. - see, we used the fact to our advantage. similarly if were short i would pump myself up in times of doubt that - look man - the facts says it can be done easy for folks like me - so i should be home for sure - let me ride these bumps out. it is not facts but the interpretation of facts that matters. btw - the cog (center of gravity) of the navel and msl (mean sea level) have nothing to do with smoking the facts in this example are a lie and something i just made up to show you how easy it is to twist facts to your advantage. everybody cannot quit cold turkey - correct, so true how does everyone who quits do it then? ok, a few managed cold turkey too - all right ! how did they do it? how long did they take? how tough was it? how did they overcome the weakness and urges, them craves? these are the kind of things you must focus on - then decide if cold turkey is for you. if not repeat the same steps with folks who quit using gums if that does not appeal too then find folks who quit any other way but quit. as long as you feed nicotine into your system you remain enslaved, chained and an addict. (be it sticks/ gum/patch/whatever else) one day you will have to let go that pacifier eventually. if you want to do it slow - fine - do it slow but steady. but never take a step back. fact is - i quit cold turkey. fact - it was the easiest thing i ever did in all my life fact - i i smoked for 35 years with a passion. loved cigarettes, stood and defended them until the last day of my quit and fought folks that meant so much to me as they stated truths i knew so well. fact - i smoked 35 sticks on the last day of my quit too fat - i turned non-smoker in 24 hrs. i quit mentally after i crossed the impossible 24 hrs limit. come on fighter - facts are for folks in self doubt. a fighter has belief in thyself - self. that is the only thing that matters in the ring, in this fight, in every quit. every voice outside the ring can scream - you cannot quit. it does not matter. the only voice that should whisper inside you head is your own - i can quit, i will quit. Nothing else matters.

  15. We're all bored and chewing gum really isn't that exciting. Give it a few days for the nicotine to get out of your system and if you want to chew something, Orbit sugarfree isn't bad if you can get it.

  17. Nicotine only stays in your system for about three days sunshine so by the 6th you'll have two of those days behind you. Why would you take it back up when it's almost out of your system?!

  18. So I've been thinking for a while now (loads of time on my hands, thanks to Coronavirus working it's magic) and here are some lessons I've learnt so far: 1. As a species, we're not indispensable. We're seeing Mother Earth thrive and flourish (at least here in India) when less of us are out and about so to speak. The air has cleared up and I'm seeing a blue in the sky I haven't in a long while. There are birds returning to trees and the whole environment is full of their sounds, so much better to wake up to than horns and cars zooming past (I live right next to a highway, so I can literally "hear" the difference). 2. This planet is not our entitlement, but a loan we owe our coming generations. And once this is over (and it will be) we need to ensure we don't fall right back into the deep hole we already were in. We're not even completely out of it yet, but this lockdown has shown me that we can certainly work towards a better world. By being aware of our surroundings, by using public transport as and when available and possible, by shopping local (here, the delivery companies are barely able to reach and make good with orders placed, we've had all our essentials being made available by our local grocery and other shops), by taking care of how much we "take" from the planet. 3. It has shown us resilience of the human spirit too. I truly salute all the medical professionals, the cleaning and sanitation staff, both for the cities and all the hospitals, the cops, the guy who collects our trash, the security guards. All these people are outside, taking care of us and putting themselves at risk without a single thought. They too have families, but they've put duty before self. What an amazing gesture, one I'm sure we can never repay. 4. There's more to life than spending weekends dancing or drinking or both. I've fallen in love with reading all over again, picked up the pen after eons, found time to pursue a little bit of photography, from my balcony. I've found that switching my phone off and sitting with a book is such a peaceful feeling (with a coffee of course). 5. Also seeing people deal with fear and anxiety daily, and then seeing others helping them out. Instances where people have reached out to their neighbours, run errands for the elderly, come closer as a community. 6. Also learnt that sometimes panic can bring out the worst in us, and we respond by putting our interests and self before the community, but that doesn't help. That's definitely one of the lessons we should not forget. Abundance with one individual shall never translate to wellness for the community. 7. One of the biggest lessons I've learnt is less is more. Here, we have so many for whom 2 square meals is a luxury, and this has only made me truly thankful, that not only can I afford to have 3, but I can do it in a room of my own, sitting with all sorts of devices to distract my mind from the mayhem going on outside. This has absolutely made me realize that what I consider a right (electricity, running water, food) is a priviledge for so many. 8. I've reconnected with my family a lot more than I typically would have. Sure there is some friction on some days, but at the end of the day, I'm glad I can sit and have a round of cards with mum and lose horribly (I suck at playing cards) but still end up having a good time. The virus has caused a lot of damage, but I think that it has also given us the chance to introspect and understand the things that matter, that we would otherwise never think about, in our typical daily lives, where all we were doing is running from work to home and home to work. I truly hope we don't lose these lessons and go back to status quo once everything is better. I hope there are lot more hugs, smiles, pleases and thank yous. I hope there is a lot more appreciation for people who help us with our daily chores. I hope we are thankful for what we have, and I hope we never forget that this experience was meant to change us for the better, even though it may not seem like it at the moment. In the end I also pray for everyone who has suffered because of this virus, and pray they get the strength to move on. Please feel free to add your own lessons, and pardon me if this felt like a ramble.

  26. You've got this Sunshine. Not sure what will feel helpful as the nicotine leaves your body. I slept for a day or so. Drinking lots of water and juice. Playing cards. Glad you are FREE!

  29. LIE. Everyone CAN quit cold turkey. Many people Don't quit cold turkey. Pure Choice. "I Can't Quit" or "I Won't Quit" During my first few days of my 'quiting-on-a-whim' quit, my quit of 6+ years now, I was googling around and found so much misinformation about 'cold turkey'. Thankfully, found Joel Spitzer and this actual video. I was heartened and cheered. Whatever You Do Don't Quit Cold Turkey Breaking Free From Nicotine's Grip Is More Doable Than Most People Think
