  2. Great pics. Good detail. Now that you have quit maybe you can take some of that extra time and energy and revisit these skills, would love to see some new work from you (photography is my hobby). Also if you try and get pics of me -- it can be hard!!!

  3. I received a text asking me to make an appointment to see the doc. I expected this because I went to have the circulation in my leg tested on the 22/8/19 and it had got worse. It will be for the doc to persuade me to quit smoking I'm sure so I'm very much looking forward to saying that I quit on the 23rd. I'll be very proud to say that.

  4. And he'll be super happy for you too. Especially if you show better results now that you're almost a month into your quit

  6. Dr.'s are always delighted to hear that you have quit - that's for sure. Even your dentist will be thrilled as smoking has a huge negative impact on dental issues. Another benefits of quitting .... you get to say loud and clear, I quit smoking, rather than fumbling for words to indicate you know you should quit but haven't started yet

  7. Great Pics mighty! You're right - astronomy is an interesting subject. I think for me it's because we know so little about outer space in general. Your telescope must be pretty powerful. There's some excellent detail in your pics. Did you get any photos of our @Martian5 flying around out there while you were shooting your telescope camera?

  8. I've always loved astronomy so I got a couple of telescopes and camera and managed to snap these. I only did it for a couple of years because it was such a faff to set up etc. I still like the subject but I lost my mojo for actually taking part in it. I was quite pleased with the results though. The one of the Sun was done with a dedicated scope. If I ever started again I think I'd just image the Sun, it was a lot easier to set up.

  9. Yes, but to avoid panic amongst the populace, a la Orson Wells, I will officially deny it and have a cover up! Then folks can start conspiracy theories.

  10. My husband does the best standing rib on the grill. Put that with my twice backed potatoes, creamed cucumbers, homemade sweet rolls and grilled asparagus and it is the perfect meal!

  11. Surf and turf: New York Strip steak, shrimp and scallops, and a baked potato on the side. And if you add a single "s" to desert island you get dessert island, so I'm gonna convince my mom to airmail me some of her homemade banana pudding a couple of times a week.

  14. Fiddly work on Margaret Mary's Valise. Figuring out how to hold things in place w/out elastic or velcro, a series of ties maybe...need to get all the goodies together and see. Out to fancy paper and pen shop later. Fun.

  15. Here are the rules of this poser just for fun. So, you're alone on a desert island and everything is fine regarding your well being. However, you can only eat the same meal for the rest of your life. It will be brought to you perfectly prepared to your liking whenever you desire it. You are allowed a standard size dinner plate and one side. Think carefully now, this is forever. I think mine would be a full English breakfast with a side of white sliced - bread toast. What's your choice?

  16. Had a couple guys come to the house today to do some warranty work on our whole house fan and I'll be damned if I've smelled anything more rank. They were both either heavy smokers or had just finished smoking before they came in. I smell smoke here and there when outdoors and it's gross and all, but I haven't had a smoker in my house before (other than me when I smoked). I just can't get over how bad the funk is. They smelled like walking ash trays. I don't know how my non-smoking girlfriend put up with me for so long. /rant

  22. What a great thread ! Will take some thought. Must include lime, coconut, rice, fish, basil, garlic, salt, some variety of capsicum. I'm thinking nutrition and favorite flavors. I am also working on the soundtrack/booklist.

  23. My quit is only a couple of weeks old so some will remember my introductory post but here is a reminder. I've suffered from poor circulation in my right leg for a few years knowing full well that it was due to smoking. However, my latest test showed a move from 80% efficiently down to 70%. The particular nurse who did the test didn't beat about the bush and said I could eventually lose my leg if I didn't quit. Other medics have told me of the dangers before but she had a manner and piercing gaze that finally made me see sense. I wasn't too keen on her at the time because she was quite brusque and not like the previous ones but I must thank her though as I really needed that kind of approach. A big kick up the ass it was and much appreciated.

  24. I quit cold turkey in August 2012. I was standing outside, coughing after every drag because I had yet another cold. I asked myself, "Is this really worth it?" I just started a new job and was in training for 3 weeks, so I decided to focus on that instead of smoking. It certainly wasn't easy, but it has been so rewarding.

  26. It was an 8 inch reflector and cost about £1000. The camera, which didn't look at all like a SLR, cost about £500 and that's the only place you can use it, on a telescope. Those examples were my first half dozen attempts after buying the set up. I have an astronomy book from the 50's and my photos are actually better than those in the book. That is not a testament to me by any means, it's a testament to the advancement of technology. Those guys in the fifties who compiled the book were brilliant and at the top of their game and used very expensive equipment. I am just an average chap with average abilities but our technology is enabled us all to achieve wonderful results.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
