  5. I don’t think it hurts to share different experiences and methods on how people have quit. Doesn’t harm anyone and might even give someone who’s struggling to hold their quit a new idea

  11. ^^Exactly this. ^^ I think you captured right about everything that comes with quitting. It isn't 'just doing it', but and at the same time... it is. There's a million wise things to say about quitting that can be helpfull and at the same time... it's all about one thing: NOT lighting up. This duality freaked me out in the beginning an it still can, honestly. But... well whatever

  12. I second reading about addictions, the psychology behind it. This helped me immensely when I quit. And regarding NRT, if it helps then absolutely go for it! Whatever it takes for you not to smoke anymore. Look forward to your posts

  14. If NRT helps get you over the hurdle use it, I did. Just remember it's not a miracle cure, you still have to do the work and fight the good fight...but it's like swimming a race with flippers, it just gives ya that extra boost to help you over the line....you still have to kick, and float and move your arms to get there... I do not regret NRT because "for me" it was what I needed, even if it was a little bit psycosematic, I needed that crutch. Do I think in some ways it prolonged the craving/anxty stage, yeah it did, but it got me through the psychological stage before I had to deal completely with the physical. I honestly think for me the emotional and mental part of my addiction was greater than the physical part. I believe it's all a case of horses for courses....we don't all look the same, we don't all think the same, we don't all quit the same.

  18. I agree, whichever way you do it is a good way, as long as it leads to a quit. People are so different in this.

  22. Good morning fellow NOPErs on this World Scleroderma Day... World wot day?, Now she's just making shit up....but today is World Scleroderma Day...it is an auto immune disease which is characterised by a hardening of skin and tissue...the lungs are particularly susceptible with fibrosis and pulmonary arterial hypertension....so it's auto immune, the body attacks itself, kinda like skin (and soft tissue) arthritis to be real basic...and it runs in families, well it runs in mine....now here's the thing, the 'science' is all over the shop, smoking can trigger it, make it progress quicker, decrease remission episodes, it has no impact (hmm a disease that affects your lungs not impacted by smoking, who funds this research??)....so hear is wot I can tell ya (from my aunties, cousins, sisters)....it hurts, ya cold all the time, and you know what, it's just anecdotal but in my family everyone who has it, bar my sister, is or was a smoker and all bar 2 were smokers when they first had an episode...so just saying boys but speshly girls who are lurking you have a relo with Scleroderma...might be time to kick the habit. NOPE.... Time to put me first

  23. 1,685 days. I can't believe I used to smoke. I was around some smokers today and the smell was horrible. Stick with it if you are early on in your quit. Things get so much better with time and the freedom is definitely worth any early struggles.

  30. No plan...it went like this; open the purse, fruck not enough money, buy a box of NRT gum to get me through to pay day, in the chemist on payday on the way to the bank, 6 months of NRT gum was the same price as a pack of smokes...said to meself "go orn, let's see how long this can last".... 19 months today since that last smoke, 16 months-ish since the last NRT gum. Edit: well that ^ was the kind of blade post that really pissed me off in my early quit....I didn't just decide that was it and that was it....it was hard work, but I dug in and gave it a red hot go and chose each day not to smoke and then protected that commitment. Oh and I did have a plan, but it came about after the fact and it was an exit plan for getting off the NRT.... That NRT exit plan was much needed for me or I would still be chewing.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
