  7. The lie that won't die. My grandfather started smoking after he joined the service in World War II. The soldiers and sailors were issued cigarettes by the Unites States Navy under the guise of smoking as a means of calming the nerves and building bravery. A lie agreed upon is still a lie.

  9. No, no.... no! Was just binging 'Dead to me', netflix series. So far, so good. Ok for a saturday evening on the couch, tea, beers and crochet. Right in the middle of the 4th episode, clues come together, secrets are out in the open, two girl friends having dinner and wine and the dirt is literally on the dinner table. Tears, anger, some jealous car scratching and then.... one of 'm buys cigarettes and the other one says she loves her for it...! And ofcourse they light up and immediately calm down and have a reasonable conversation... oh right. I am in shock! This is soooo Marlboro man old fashion.. how can they still do it like that? I thought we were past that? Apparantly NOT. The only nice thing about it... i felt true repulsion. Really, what a cheap move. -Edit- ah I was too quick. She cant get it lit! Well. What about that. Weird.

  10. The part I find disturbing is that hey are promoting the lie we all buy into, that smoking calms you in a tense situation. This is the major stumbling block for many people quitting. Not understanding the difference between nicotine addiction stress and life stress. Cigarettes only solve one kind of stress and it's NOT life stress!

  16. I suppose the reality of life is that millions of people still smoke. I think by removing smoking/drinking/drugs it would also remove that reality of life. We are quitters so we view that scene differently to a lot of other people. Never smokers and smokers probably never even viewed it the way you did - in fact they probably never thought about it at all. I once blew a quit because someone was smoking in a programme. How pathetic is that lol. Hope things are ok with you. Sounds like a perfect evening to me. Only thing I would add is some cheese and onion crisps

  17. OK so, Here's the story: 1. This one's True! I said coleslaw because sauerkraut is virtually unheard of where I live. It's only available as a dressing for Hot Dogs or Sausages from the food cart venders and I guess if you went to a German restaurant.? And Yes; arms crossed, pouting like a child while I send my food back and request not only that the slaw be removed but that my food be re-plated to avoid any potential slaw-juice contamination. 2. This one's True. My dad found out because the kid that saved me told his dad who told my dad. I got into big trouble over that one. 3. Is a Lie! I have no Inuit heritage in my bloodline. Wish I did cuz I would pay NO taxes Looks like you're up again Lilly

  21. I already had the first month (a train obviously) and ordered the second one which is a rectangle inscribed with "the importance of an SOS." I don't want to jinx anything so am waiting until around month 4 to do a photo x

  22. And just like that, 1 month goes by. I'm proud of my quit, no nicotine patches, no urges at all, being healthy starts being fun. It's like my brain just switched off the part that told me to smoke.

  27. I never watched The Wizard of Oz. Many find this weird. However, in my circle of friends the only guys I knew who took the time to actually watch that movie were stoners who were trying to sync the film with the album The Dark Side of the Moon. I've never seen that movie Prometheus. And at this point if I do watch it I'm not going to tell anybody. I work with a guy who is obsessed with that film. He has a lot of theories and opinions about the deeper meaning of the movie. The last guy that tried talking about that movie with him couldn't catch a break. I only kinda, sorta saw The Sound of Music. A music teacher showed us the movie when I was in junior high. That class was right after lunch and I was bored so I slept through most of it.

  28. I think it's best to accept the duality of our thinking. I accepted that my junkie voice was that of a petulant child: impulsive, temperamental, prone to tantrums, and lacking any responsibility. Meanwhile, my logical voice was the adult in the room: responsible, clear-headed, and on an even keel. The petulant child didn't go out without a fight, but eventually the logical adult took full control of the situation. Knowledge is one of the cornerstones of a rock-solid quit. You are putting yourself in a perfect position for success.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
