  13. freeatlast, you will have a few days of discomfort. They are all doable. We will be here, so be sure and keep us informed on how you are doing. Hopefully we can guide you through!

  14. Thanks for checking in freeatlast. I have to tell you that you have to really want to quit in order to succeed. Especially the first month or six. But you want it bad enough and no amount of stress will stop you. When you do go back on Monday, maybe tell your coworkers that you have quit smoking so maybe they'll cut you some slack and forgive you if you're not as pleasant as you normally are lol. Stick close, post an SOS if you feel yourself caving and we'll support you as much as you need or want. You can do this!

  15. I already had the first month (a train obviously) and ordered the second one which is a rectangle inscribed with "the importance of an SOS." I don't want to jinx anything so am waiting until around month 4 to do a photo x

  16. Okay, we are camping and my husband decided we were going to hike from the campground into the town. He didn't tell me it would be through a cemetery (I met all the dead people of Lebanon, Ohio) and down a hill (which would be up on the way home). He said it was only 1 and 1/2 miles. Turned out to be 4.37 miles and 9,397 steps. What were we thinking. We both are too out of shape for this kind of hike. Someone actually stopped and asked us if we needed help in the cemetery. We were to embarrassed to say yes "give us a ride back to the campground". We did however have some good laughs at ourselves. We did make it back to the campground. I will let you know if we can move tomorrow!!!!!

  17. Hi free and welcome. You have a great attitude. Read and learn as much as you can about this addiction. So much great advise from all above. I just wanted to pipe in and say welcome aboard.

  19. ^^^^^^Yes desperate1 it does get it bit easier and soon you will be taking that walk in the park -- though it takes a bit of time. I will let you know that cigarettes do cross my mind at this time in my quit -- but that is all they do, cross my mind. I have to watch myself but it is so much easier now and thoughts of smoking are so fleeting that I just shrug them off. Keep strong you are doing well!!!!

  20. Welcome aboard freeatlast, this is a journey that will change your life (and from what you say this is what you want). It can be tough but, as said above, there are ways to help you on this journey. Educate yourself, come here often to read and post, and try doing the daily NOPE pledge -- it may seem corny but it really helped me!!!!!

  24. Hey there Freeatlast, Your name gives an inkling to precisely how you must be feeling right You've taken a courageous step, and shown yourself some long overdue love. My advice is pretty much along the lines of what @jillar mentioned, educate yourself, know thine enemy, learn to understand your triggers and try to stay away (I know it's tough) from stressful situations. Read, read, read. And yes, shout out whenever you need help, you'll be surprised at how many of us are cheering you on. We may not be with you physically, but we're with you in spirit. Just remember, take it one crave at a time and yes, reward yourself for the milestones just to recognize how awesomely dedicated you are. Best of luck.

  25. Could you clarify if you are several years quit or 9 months quit? Just asking because you mention that you're 9 months quit and then say that you quit years ago. Either way, congratulations on a great quit

  28. Awww thanks Jillar for doing me an anniversary thread. Thank you for your lovely congratulations everyone. I don't know how I've got here but I have. I think about smoking a lot but I've never once had a puff. I'm really grateful to everyone who helped me when I did my SOS because that's the closest I've come to throwing it all away. I'm so glad I've got this forum. When the thoughts keep coming I post on here and it passes. I'm going out tonight to eat with all my family as they are so proud of me. I wanted to wait until 3 months but here I am trying in my thirteenth outfit. No doubt I'll end up wearing the first one I tried. Thank you everyone - I wouldn't have got here if it wasn't for all the support and encouragement from you all x

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
