  1. This is an interesting article about how tobacco companies are realizing people are quitting smoking and they need to hook people another way. Philip Morris needs to kill smoking to survive ://a.msn.com/00/en-us/BBW2w7D?ocid=se

  4. They are fighting for their corporate survival in any and all ways they can, no matter who they hurt or kill along their way .... like they always have. The Who did a song called; Won't Get Fooled Again! There was a lyric near the end of that song "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" - applies very much to big tobacco unfortunately

  5. And the big tobacco companies continue to march on and reap profits thru inflicting damage/injury to others. I am so sad I ever fell into their trap. I can only go forward and let others know the dangers, I do this by speaking to my grandchildren and they do listen -- they only have to look to me to see the damages!!!!

  8. It is a little better. As long as I take the anti inflammatory and an occasional pain pill, I am mustering through. We have been packing all week so we did not overdo it at once. My husband is doing the lifting. We leave tomorrow morning. We are meeting up with my grand daughter at college, so grandma had to make a special meal to feed the starving college students. She has quite a few starving friends. Then we are off to a week of just relaxing and camping. I do have an appointment with an orthopedic doctor when we get home. I am just hoping it will continue getting better. It is hell getting old!

  10. Remember too that smoking triggers will come out of nowhere as seasons change. You mentioned it is really hot there now with monsoon season coming. Perhaps this is the first time you have faced this seasonal change since quitting and so memories of what you used to do at this time of year are creeping into your head. You have already built a tool chest of ways to ignore these sudden cravings so put those to work. Once you get by these seasonal change cravings, you will never have to worry about them in the future. because you will have already dealt with them. Keep going forward. You are getting to where you want to be. Permanently smoke free!

  11. One of the things I do when I get a craving for a cigarette is I submit to the craving by saying to myself "Yes, off course I want a cigarette, but I am not going to have one because that will lead to all the crappy health issues that will occur in future with all the other cigarettes." Here's a video that may help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTb3d5cjSFI&list=PLFSPvz6xN0rw0Sa26OUxOtyF5xPtrdrHe&index=1

  14. Good job on posting an SOS and not lighting up, Redemption. As reci and abby said, changing seasons can bring on different memories and feeling that may trigger a crave. Keep going strong. Each time you fight through something like this, your quit gets stronger.

  16. I've read that it takes about a year to face all of your usual triggers. That's because, as @reciprocity said, you have to face all of the changing seasons. It's often called the year of "firsts"--the first warm sunny day after a long winter...the first campfire...the first outdoor barbecue...the first pile of leaves raked...the first chilly day...the first fire in the fireplace...the first snowfall...the first family gathering for the holidays (this will be a tough one for me this year.) These "firsts' can all trigger a craving. And it takes a full year to face the majority of them. It helps me to remember that with each craving I am forming new associations, so the next time I face the triggers it won't be so hard!

  17. We were duped by the tobacco companies when we were still young, impressionable, and in my case stupid. Unfortunate, but not something to beat ourselves up over. As for Hollywood and the mainstream media, their level of influence on young people is on a sharp downward spiral. Hopefully this trend continues and the relationship between big tobacco and big media continues to show diminishing returns.

  18. When we were young, they made smoking look so appealing. All the movie stars smoked and romanticized it. I am ashamed of my foolishness. I am hoping we can teach the younger generations.

  22. I could never smoke when it was super hot outside either. But what I did when strong cravings hit was go some place that I didn't smoke and the crave would disappear. For instance, I never smoked in my car so if a really bad crave hit and my air cig didn't work I would get in my car and take a short drive. And any thoughts of smoking would completely go away. Maybe try that?

  27. Congratulations @DizzyD for being 1 month smoke free. Well done D. This is the hardest quit month and you have done it. It gets easier day by day from now. So, rewarding ourselves is all part of the quit process, it helps to re-wire those nicotine receptors in our brains. Make sure you do something special, just for your to celebrate.

  30. Funny you should mention that, about the movie stars. Just yesterday I was reading a list of famous people (a lot of them movie/TV stars) who died of smoking related diseases; mostly lung cancer. The list went on and on and on. I couldn't even get to the end of it. It's amazing. When you watch those old TV shows and they are all happily smoking away ...... little did they know then that they were facilitating their own early demise. I remember a lot of them were between 60-70 when they died but some even a lot younger. It's shocking to look at those statistics. I too am angry with tobacco companies but most;y at myself for ignoring the facts once they were made available to us. Regret does nothing positive though so all we can do is protect our own quits and do what we can to encourage others to take the step to freedom.

  33. Just got my permit approval for a 4-5 day backpacking trip in August to Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon National Park (near Yosemite). Very excited. This trip would not have been possible if I were still a smoker.

  36. G’day My grandparents fought for the 8 hour work day. So the day consisted of 8 hours work, 8 hours sleep and 8 hours Leisure. With our city’s getting so big and that job for life doesn’t exist any more so we are forced further afield. A commute is getting part of life now. You cant sleep on a bus or train or behind the wheel ;( You can’t work on a bus or train and I don’t want to be an Uber driver. So that leaves the commute time to come out of you leisure time.... we are going to be so much poorer for that C

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
