  1. Hi, just wanted to introduce myself. After being a smoker of 20 sometimes more but strangely never less puffs a day for 30+ years . I started my final quit on 1of August this year. I had been promising myself I would quit but always found a million reasons why I couldn't do it at that time "I'll do it later" was my mantra..!! So I went to my local pharmacy to join their cessation programme. We decided 12 weeks of patches and lozenges, I blew into the carbon monoxide detector and .. oh my the alarm went crazy all the red lights were crazily flashing red.. I was in shock at that wee machine, I came out with my NRT stuff and my quit date (a few days later) and immediately lit up (well I was in shock and NEEDED a puff to calm down!! Right??) As I walked home I realised that that this experience (flashing lights and alarms) had scared the bejezus outa me and I knew the longer I left it the more the chance I would find a reason not quit on that date and just be back in that cycle of buy a pack, promise this is last pack then say ocht next time... buy pack, promise this is last pack then say ocht next time..!!! That was the day I went cold turkey and here I still am. Geez it's been a right roller coaster ride at times but things have really leveled out for me now and I am holding a really strong quit working on making it Titanium.. I should also say I am a member of another support forum but I would like to be part of this forum too as I know I can now help others struggling on their path. I hope this will be ok with you all ?

  15. When you first start your quit you might envy those who still smoke. Then one day you realize you pity them. That's the day you quit.

  27. Tyme2B - I might be going against the grain by saying this but - if that is typical behavior from mom, being able to concentrate on something as challenging as a quit would be even harder. I am not going to sit here and lecture. I would say your smoking habit is probably one of your lesser problems right now. You gotta figure out some way to handle mom. May have to cut contact, report her suicide threats, just whatever. Put your god damn foot down. I know she is probably older and isn't likely to change but you cannot subject yourself to this if you want a healthy life. This goes far beyond whether or not you smoke. Our health is more than being a smoker or non-smoker. It is the people or situations we have to deal with. What do I know? Not quit first hand like you do but if my step-dad were given the chance, he would probably act the same way with me. I have NO contact. Quitting, as we all know, is much more than just putting down that pack. We have to clear some obstacles before and during. For some, the quit path may be a walk in the park (as much as quitting CAN be) but for others, it is like trying to drudge one's way through a destroyed alley. Sounds like Tyme2B is in the "alley". Yeah but you NEED to do something about your mom. Most people do not regret getting "difficult" relatives out of their lives. Even if you do manage to put away the smokes, she is ruining other areas of your life.

  31. The only thing I would add is: there is a price being paid by smokers long before the big bill comes due. I kicked the can down the road for years procrastinating about quitting. I told myself that I feel pretty good for now. Hindsight is 20/20 and now I realize I didn't feel good, I felt normal. Normal for a smoker. Wasted potential is a price we all payed while enslaved by the cigarette.

  32. Blink 182 - I Miss You -- love that one. I actually still burn CDs for my car So that's on disk #4 along with a Peter Murphy/Postal Service Mashup which I can't find anywhere to share, but it rocks. So here's this one instead:

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
